Godes Mikhail Solomonovich
Brigade Commissar
Born in 1901 in Lepel, Vitebsk region, member of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) from 1920 to 1937. In 1922-1924 he was a history teacher at the Higher School of Command Staff in Kharkov. Since 1924 he was a teacher at the Military-Political Academy. In 1924-1930 he taught at the I.V. Stalin Communist University, and since 1926 at the A.I. Herzen Leningrad State Pedagogical Institute. Since 1930 he worked at the Leningrad Oriental Institute. In 1932-1934 - at the Leningrad Institute of Philosophy, Literature and History. In 1935 - professor at the Leningrad Oriental Institute, senior research fellow at the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences, head of the general history department at the N.G. Brigadier Commissar. Lived in Leningrad (K. Libknecht Ave., 37, Apt. 32). Arrested on 27 October 1936. Sentenced to capital punishment under Article 58 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR by a visiting session of the Supreme Court of the USSR in Leningrad on 19 December 1936. Shot in Leningrad on 10 February 1937. Rehabilitated on 24 March 1956.
On November 8, 2015, a personal memorial sign was installed on house No. 2 on Tavricheskaya Street in St. Petersburg in memory of M.S. Godes as part of the Last Address project.
