Sverdlov Mikhail Abramovich
Lecturer in Political Economy
Born in 1904 in Lutsin, Latvia; higher education. First secretary of the Krasnogvardeisky District Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks), then a teacher of political economy at the 1st Medical Institute. Lived in Leningrad, Mayakovsky St., Bldg. 17, Apt. 8. Arrested on 11/11/1938 by the NKVD Directorate for Leningrad Oblast. Sentenced on 21/06/1939 by the Leningrad Military District Military Tribunal under Articles 17-58-8 and 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 10 years in a correctional labor camp. By the determination of the Military Commission of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated 04/12/1939, the charge was requalified to Article 58-10, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, and the prison term was reduced to 5 years. Imprisoned in Kargopollag, Arkhangelsk Oblast. He died in the Nyandom camp on September 13, 1943. He was rehabilitated by the decision of the Military Commission of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on April 25, 1956.
On September 24, 2017, a personal memorial sign was installed on house No. 17 on Mayakovsky Street in St. Petersburg in memory of M.A. Sverdlov as part of the Last Address project.
