Smirnov Valentin Romanovich

Born 05/09/1927 in the village of Osnovets, Pustoshkinsky District, Pskov Region. Secondary medical education, paramedic. Lived in Leningrad. 2nd year student at the Pediatric Institute. Arrested 02/20/1949. Sentenced by the Leningrad City Court on 05/31/1949 under Articles 58-10, Part 2 and 182 to 25 years in the camps and 5 years of disenfranchisement. In custody in the Igarsky District of the Krasnoyarsk Territory (P.O. box 6/9), in Yanov-Stan, Turukhansky District (P.O. box 7/057), Norilsk (P.O. box 224 V - 3rd penal colony; P.O. box 224 Shch - 29th penal colony), Mariinsk, Kemerovo Region (P.O. box 247/5 - tuberculosis hospital). Released early on July 3, 1954 under amnesty due to tuberculosis (Determination of the Kemerovo Regional Court). Rehabilitated on June 20, 1990 by the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR in terms of the charge under Articles 58-10. Graduated from the Leningrad Pediatric Institute in 1961. Worked as a doctor in Leningrad until 1983. Member of the Memorial Society since January 1989, worked in the Human Rights Commission. Died in St. Petersburg on 28.05.2008.
