Born in 1888 in St. Petersburg. Graduated with a silver medal from the Karl May School in 1906. Studied at the Philosophy Department of Leipzig University, then at the University of St. Petersburg, where he studied oriental languages and cultures. Worked at the Hermitage, from 1918 - keeper of the department of oriental numismatics, and from 1920 - head of the department of numismatics of the State Hermitage. Arrested on 10.01.1934 in the case of the "fascist organization of Russian and Ukrainian nationalists "Russian National Party" (RNP)". Sentenced by the resolution of the OGPU Collegium of 29.03.1934 under Articles 58-4, 58-10 and 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 10 years of imprisonment in a correctional labor camp. 04.04.1934 sent by convoy to the city of Svobodny BAML. 25.05.1934 arrived in places of imprisonment of Uzbekistan, where spent four years. In BAML, then in the camp in Tashkent worked in the office of the Administration of Central Asian Labor Camps. Died on 26.02.1938 in Separate Labor Re-education Camp No. 19 of the UMVD of the Uzbek SSR. Rehabilitated by the decision of the Military Tribunal of the Leningrad Military District dated 28.11.1956.On October 26, 2017, in St. Petersburg, at house No. 32 on Dvortsovaya Embankment, a personal memorial sign was installed in memory of R.R. Fasmer as part of the Last Address project.
