Graduated from the Leningrad Naval School and the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute (1936), mechanical engineer. He worked as an engineer in the management of production enterprises in Leningrad. Arrested in 1936. Convicted by a resolution of a special meeting of the NKVD of the USSR on July 31, 1936, to 10 years in labor camp. He served his sentence in Vorkuta, and after his release he was sent into exile in the Murmansk region.
