Born in 1902 in the village of Bulanovo, Kirillovsky District, Vologda Oblast; member of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) since 1925. In 1928 he was arrested in Baku and exiled to Chimkent. In April 1929 he escaped from exile to Moscow, where he was arrested. On 23.12.1929 the case was reviewed and closed. As of May 1933 he lived in a dormitory of the Military Mechanical Institute of Leningrad (modern Baltic State Technical University), where he was listed as a student.
