Genus. in 1949 in Yerevan. In 1966-1969. He studied at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute and at the same time worked as an electrician at a knitting factory. Arrested in 1969. Sentenced to 4 years in the camps. He served his term in the Mordovian camps. In 1973, upon returning to Yerevan, he was placed under administrative supervision. 02/05/1974 for violation of supervision received 2 years in the camps, after the trial he was placed in a KGB pre-trial detention center. Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations. Leader of the National Self-Determination Party. In 1998-1999 headed the commission for the preparation of constitutional amendments under the President of Armenia. In 1999-2002 - Chairman of the Commission on Human Rights of Armenia. Since 2002 - leader of the United Self-Determination party. In February 2003, he was a candidate for the President of Armenia.
