Genus. in 1933 in Tbilisi. In 1951. In 1951-1960. studied at the Kharkov Higher Aviation Engineering School as a radio engineer. He served as an engineer in the aviation regiment in the city of Uzin, Kyiv region. Member of the CPSU.In 1961 (?) he returned to Kharkov. He combined work as a teacher at a military school with studies in correspondence postgraduate studies, and was preparing to defend his Ph.D. thesis. In 1964 spoke at the party meeting of the department with a statement of no confidence in the new leadership of the CPSU in connection with the non-democratic methods of replacing N.S. Khrushchev. In 1968 met Pyotr Yakir, Pyotr Grigorenko, Alexei Kosterin. Expelled from the party, dismissed from the army for refusing to condemn the activities of Andrei Sakharov, Pyotr Grigorenko and other dissidents. He worked as a senior engineer at the Kharkov section of Orgenergoavtomatika. May 1969 joined the Initiative Group for the Protection of Human Rights in the USSR. Signed an Open Letter to the public in defense of P. Grigorenko and the Crimean Tatars, in June 1969. - an appeal among 10 human rights activists with a letter to the International Conference of Communist and Workers' Parties with a protest against the entry of troops into Czechoslovakia. Arrested on 07/11/1969, imprisoned in the Kharkiv prison on Kholodnaya Gora. Accused of disseminating slanderous literature. Convicted on November 26, 1969. sentence of the Kharkiv Regional Court to 3 years in labor camp. In the spring of 1970 arrived in the Nizhny Ingash camp (Kansky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory). Sent to general work, then transferred to work as a mechanic. In September 1971 transferred by decision of the visiting court to the settlement. He worked as a garage manager, then as a power plant manager at the Khairyuzovka station on the Abakan-Taishet highway. Released on 06/10/1972, returned to Kharkov.
He was denied employment in 22 organizations. He entered the Kinotechprom as an electrician. He read and distributed samizdat, signed letters in defense of A. Sakharov, L. Plush. Summoned for a "prophylactic conversation" at the KGB, handed over the recording of this conversation to samizdat. May 30, 1980 during the search, the book "The Gulag Archipelago" was seized. Arrested 12/16/1980. Convicted on 03/31/1981. sentenced by the Kharkiv Regional Court to 7 years in labor camp and 5 years in exile. Sent by stage to the place of detention in the 36th zone of the Perm political camp.
11/01/1982 by decision of the visiting session of the Chusovsky District Court, the detention in the camp was replaced by detention in prison. Sent to Chistopol Prison. In November 1985 he was transferred to the Mordovian political camp. 03/09/1987 released early. He returned to Kharkov, resumed his social activities: he participated in the creation of the Kharkov branch of Memorial, collaborated with the Glasnost magazine. In 1990 rehabilitated. Elected People's Deputy of Ukraine. In 1997 worked as a coordinator of the Ukrainian-American Bureau for Human Rights in the Kharkiv region. Elected co-chairman of the Kharkov "Memorial". Died 06/30/2005
