Balashov Viktor Alekseevich
Definition: Dissident, Soviet-era political prisoner, scientist and programmer. For many years, while in exile, he was involved in perpetuating the memory of the victims of resistance to the totalitarian regime.

Arrested on March 3, 1962 for creating and participating in the underground student group “Union for Freedom of Mind.” Sentenced by the Moscow City Court on July 20, 1962, charged under Article 70 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, 72 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, sentenced to 7 years in prison. He served his sentence in Dubravlaga. In March 1963 he tried to escape. Convicted on 05/06/1963 by the Torbeevsky District Court under Art. 188 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (“escape”) for 3 years with the addition of the unserved term, for a total of 8 years 9 months 27 days. In 1963-1966. was kept in Vladimir prison. In 1966-1972 served the remaining sentence in a special regime camp in the 10th zone in Potma (as a “particularly dangerous repeat offender”). Released on January 22, 1972.
In 1974 he emigrated to the USA. Died 03/16/2016.
