Genus. in 1953 in Batumi, Adjara Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, Georgian SSR; Georgian. He studied at the Tbilisi Polytechnic Institute, then graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Tbilisi State University with a degree in classical philology. He taught at Tbilisi University, junior researcher. Lived in Tbilisi. One of the founders of the Republican Party of Georgia in 1978. Arrested on 01/04/1984. Sentenced by the Supreme Court of the GSSR on April 20, 1984 under Article 71 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the GSSR to 3 years in prison. He served his sentence in Dubravlaga, Zhkh-385/3-5 in the village. Barashevo, Tengushevsky district. Released on January 3, 1987, he returned to work at Tbilisi University, where he worked until 1994. In 1994–1998. worked in non-governmental organizations from 1998 to 2004. – General Director of the National Library of Georgia. From 2004 to 2008 - Member of the Georgian Parliament, then - Chairman of the Board of the Republican Institute in Tbilisi.
