Born in 1930. Worked as a blacksmith on a collective farm. Lived in the town of Tysmenytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukrainian SSR. Arrested in December 1967 for protesting against the destruction of a church in the village. Sentenced in 1968 to 7 years in a strict regime labor camp and 3 years in exile under Article 62 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR. Served his sentence in Mordovian camps, and from 1972 in labor camp 36. Participated in a mass hunger strike in the fall of 1973. After his release in 1975, he was sent into exile in the Tomsk region. In 1977, a new criminal case was opened. He sought the right to leave the USSR.
