He was known in Leningrad as one of the best teachers of Hebrew. An active participant in long-distance teacher seminars in Koktebel. On June 10, 1985, he was arrested on charges of slandering the Soviet social and state system at meetings with foreign tourists and in letters that he sent to public and political figures in the West. 08/08/1985 he was sentenced to 3 years in a general regime prison. Released after 2 years.
