He worked as a driver in SevGOK. Arrested on 05/01/1980. for the procession with a poster "Trade unions - independence from the CPSU" at the May Day demonstration. Sentenced to 3 years in prison under Art. 206 (malicious hooliganism). Contained in Kherson, Ukrainian SSR. Arrested in custody on April 27, 1983. Sentenced under Art. 187-1 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR (190-1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR) for "slanderous" conversations in the zone to 3 years of penal colony with the serving of the unserved part of the previous term. In May 1986, in custody, again convicted, sentenced to 4 years in a strict regime under Art. 188-3 for disobeying the camp administration. In a strict regime camp, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Wrote a statement to the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the refusal of Soviet citizenship. He was held in the prison of Krasnovodsk in Turkmenistan, then in the city of Goris of the Armenian SSR.
