Kuryokhin Sergey Anatolievich
Definition: Avant-garde musician, jazz musician, composer, arranger, actor, creator and leader of the Pop Mechanics group.

Genus. 06/16/1954 in Murmansk. He began studying music at the age of four. He spent his childhood and school years in Crimea, in Evpatoria. In 1971, after graduating from high school, he and his family moved to Leningrad, where he entered the Mussorgsky Music School at the Leningrad Conservatory. Expelled from school for chronic absenteeism. He studied for a short time at the Institute of Culture, at the faculty of choral conducting. Then he worked as an accompanist for rhythmic gymnastics. His path in music began as a rock pianist; in 1971-1977 he performed with the famous amateur groups “Post”, “Big Iron Bell” and “Gulf Stream”. Then he became interested in jazz and joined the quartet (later trio) of Leningrad saxophonist Anatoly Vapirov, with whom he performed at the country's largest jazz festivals. At the end of the 1970s. experimented with a variety of his own groups. In the first half of the 1980s, he returned to rock for a while as an arranger and keyboard player. In 1984, his most famous project was created - “Popular Mechanics” (first small, then large “Pop Mechanics”), which included members of the groups “Aquarium”, “Kino”, “Strange Games”, “AuktYon” , “Jungle”, “THREE “O””, folk ensemble V. Fedko.
Subsequently, Kuryokhin's orchestra toured almost the entire country, then performed abroad. The “Pop Mechanics” show featured musicians and artists of different schools, styles and movements, chamber and symphony orchestras (sometimes the number of participants reached 300 people). In addition to working with his group, he performed solo programs of piano improvisations and duets, wrote music for plays and films.
In 1991, in the “Fifth Wheel” program, together with S. Sholokhov, he released a media virus, which became known as “Lenin is a mushroom” or “quiet pop mechanics.” Died on July 9, 1996 in St. Petersburg. He was buried in the cemetery in Komarovo near St. Petersburg.

The International Music Festival SKIF (Sergey Kuriokhin International Festival), which is held annually in St. Petersburg, is dedicated to the memory of Sergey Kuriokhin. In addition, Kuryokhin festivals are held annually in Berlin, Amsterdam and New York.
