Genus. in 1937 in the village of Fedorovka, Rognedinsky district, Bryansk region; Russian; higher education; mining engineer. After high school, he graduated from a mining technical school, served in the army, worked in a mine, was an active Komsomol member, after demobilization he joined the party, then graduated from the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute with a degree in electrical engineering. Lived in Donetsk. Since 1969, he has repeatedly defended the rights of workers in conflicts between the administration of the mine in Butovka and the workers. In 1970 he was fired from his job. On December 22, 1971, an explosion occurred at the mine where Nikitin had previously worked, as a result of which 7 people were killed and more than 100 were injured. Nikitin repeatedly warned the administration about the danger of an explosion. Arrested on January 13, 1972, on charges of anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda, he was kept in a Donetsk prison for 5 months. Sentenced on June 14, 1972 under Art. 187-1 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR for compulsory treatment, sent to the Dnepropetrovsk Special Psychiatric Hospital. Released on March 26, 1976. He couldn’t get a job, and on February 20, 1977 he left for Moscow, where he tried to obtain political asylum at the Norwegian Embassy. Arrested at the exit from the embassy, again sent to the Dnepropetrovsk special psychiatric hospital. After his release, in 1980 he was examined by a psychiatrist at the Working Commission to Investigate the Use of Psychiatry for Political Purposes and was found to be mentally normal. Having met American journalists in 1980, he invited them to Donetsk to get acquainted with the life of miners. After this, he was arrested and placed in Donetsk mental hospital No. 2, then in the Dnepropetrovsk special psychiatric hospital. In January 1982 he was transferred to a special psychiatric hospital in Talgar (Kazakhstan), at the beginning of 1984 - to Donetsk mental hospital No. 2, from where he was released a few days before his death. 01/21/1984 died of stomach cancer.
