Arrested on December 31, 1956 for speaking at a university-wide debate on the topic “How do you understand the role and place of the Komsomol in your life.” Sentenced on December 30, 1956 by the Tomsk Regional Court under Articles 58–10, part 1, 182, part 4 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 5 years in a penal colony. He served his term in Ozerlag and Dubravlag. RSFSR Armed Forces, sentence reduced to 3 years Released 06/09/1960 Graduated from the Leningrad Mining Institute.
