For participation in the illegal organization of R. Pimenov, which set itself the task of democratizing Soviet society, he was expelled from the institute. Subsequently, he continued his studies at the Faculty of Philology of Leningrad State University (graduated in 1968). Twice (1957, 1971) he was involved in political trials, including as a witness in Pimenov’s trial. He was expelled from the graduate school of the Institute of Literary Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Pushkin House).
