Genus. in 1912 in Tsarskoe Selo (St. Petersburg). From 1917 to 1929 he lived in Bezhetsk. Since 1930 in Leningrad. In 1930-1934. worked on expeditions in the Sayans, Pamirs and Crimea. Since 1934 he studied at the history department of Leningrad University. In 1935 he was expelled from the university and arrested on October 23, 1935, but was soon released. In 1937 he was reinstated at Leningrad State University. Arrested for the second time in 1938, sentenced on September 27, 1938 to 10 years in the camps, the case was reviewed, and on July 26, 1939 the term was reduced to 5 years. While imprisoned in Belbaltlag, from September 21, 1939 - in Norillag, he worked as a geological technician. Released in March 1943, left in Norilsk without the right to leave. In the fall of 1944, he voluntarily joined the Soviet army, a participant in the Great Patriotic War. Reinstated at Leningrad State University, from which he graduated at the beginning of 1946. Arrested for the third time on November 6, 1949 in Leningrad, on November 9, 1949 he was taken from Leningrad to Lefortovo prison. On September 13, 1950 he was sentenced by a Special Meeting at the USSR Ministry of State Security under Art. 58-8, 58-10 part 1, 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (“belonging to an anti-Soviet group, terrorist intentions and anti-Soviet agitation”) to 10 years in the labor camp (“repetition” for cases of 1935 and 1938). Sent from Lefortovo prison on 10/11/1950, arrived at the Chelyabinsk transit prison on 10/14/1950. He was imprisoned in the Special Sandy Camp of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs on the territory of the Karaganda region. (11/23/1950 arrived at the 3rd department of Karlag, 12/13/1950 transferred to the 10th camp department). 09/03/1951 transferred to Kamyshlag (Special No. 10; Myskovsky district, Kemerovo region), in 1952 - to a l/p in the village. Syrkash (Mezhdurechensk, Kemerovo region). In June 1953, Kamyshlag was relocated to Omsk. Released in June 1956. Rehabilitated in 1956. Worked at the State Hermitage (1956-1962), the State Research Institute at the Faculty of Geography of Leningrad State University (from 1962 until his retirement in 1986), professor at Leningrad State University. In 1961 he defended his doctoral dissertation in history, in 1974 - his doctoral dissertation in geography. He died on June 15, 1992 in St. Petersburg.
