Gurevich Anatoly Markovich
Genus. 07.11.1913 in Kharkov. After graduating from school in Leningrad, he studied at the Institute of Railway Transport, and then at the Intourist Institute. He took part in the Spanish Civil War as a volunteer, serving as a translator under Army Commander G. M. Stern. At the same time, he conducted reconnaissance work. In Spain, Gurevich worked under the name Antonio Gonzalez, a lieutenant in the Republican fleet. He trained as a cryptographer and radio operator, received a passport in the name of the Uruguayan Vincent Sierra, and the Intelligence Directorate gave him the pseudonym Kent. In March 1940, he reported to Moscow about the impending attack of Nazi Germany on the Soviet Union. In November 1942 he was arrested by the Gestapo, but, having recruited German counterintelligence officers, on June 21, 1945 he returned to Moscow on a military plane. Immediately upon arrival, he was arrested by counterintelligence agencies. From 1945 to 1947 he was imprisoned by the NKVD on charges of treason. In January 1947, at a special meeting at the USSR Ministry of State Security, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison under Article 58-1 "a" of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (“treason to the Motherland”); until October 1955 he was in the camps of Vorkuta. In 1955 he was released, but not rehabilitated. Arrested in 1958; in 1960 he was released from the Mordovian camp on parole. 07/22/1991 rehabilitated. Lived in Leningrad, member of the Memorial Society since 1992. Died in St. Petersburg in 2009.
