Born September 21, 1902 in St. Petersburg, in the family of a prominent engineer and technologist; Polish; higher education - in 1926 he graduated from the architectural department of the Higher Art and Technical Institute in Leningrad. Lived in Leningrad, Maly Prospekt P.S., 1/3. In the mid-1930s, he turned from magazine caricatures to the genre of book graphics. Illustrated "Funny Stories" by M. Zoshchenko, "Spoiled Children" by M. Saltykov-Shchedrin. He became the illustrator of the first edition of Alexei Tolstoy's book "The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino", which was published in 1936 by Detgiz. Together with Daniil Kharms, he created and drew "Smart Masha" - one of the first Soviet comics, which was published in the Leningrad magazine "CHIZH" and enjoyed great popularity. He was arrested on July 23, 1937 on charges of espionage for Poland. Sentenced to capital punishment by the Commission of the NKVD and the Prosecutor's Office of the USSR on August 25, 1937 under Article 58-6 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR. He was shot in Leningrad on August 27, 1937. Rehabilitated by the Military Tribunal of the Leningrad Military District on January 8, 1958.

On July 25, 2015, a personal memorial sign was installed on house No. 1/3 on Maly Prospekt, Petrogradskaya Storona , St. Petersburg, in memory of B.B. Malakhovsky, as part of the "Last Address" project.
