Pirogov Sergey Kuzmich
Arrested on August 21, 1957 for “revisionism” and “organizational activities” (a group for the study of Marxism). Sentenced by the Arkhangelsk Regional Court on February 12, 1958 under Art. 58-10 part 1, 58-11 to 8 years of labor camp with loss of rights for 5 years. By decree of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR dated May 28, 1965, he was pardoned. Released 06/07/1965. In 1973 he was arrested and convicted under Art. 190-1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR for 2 years of labor camp for storing and distributing samizdat. He emigrated to Germany in 1976. He worked in Munich for Radio Liberty, writing and translating in his free time. He showed himself most actively as a translator during the period of Polish Solidarity. He participated in the creation of the Forum magazine, was a member of its advisory board and published there. His articles and reviews also appeared on the pages of Russian Thought. In 1993 he was awarded the Hungarian medal “For Motherland and Freedom: 1956”. Died in 2006. Rehabilitated by the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR on 10/09/1991.
