Born in 1930 in the village of Aleksandrai, Raseiniai County, Lithuania ; Lithuanian; secondary education. In 1944-1947 - a high school student, a member of the anti-German and anti-Soviet underground. Lived in the city of Raseiniai, Lithuanian SSR. Technician in the city clinical hospital. Arrested in 1947 as a member of the underground Catholic youth organization "Ateitininki", distributor of the underground newspaper "Laisves Varpas" ("Liberty Bell"). Sentenced on 08.04.1948 by the Special Department of the MGB of the USSR under Art. 58-10, 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 5 years in a labor camp. In custody in the Minlag. Arrested on 25.01.1949. Sentenced on 25.02.1949   by the special camp court of the Mineral Camp of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under Article 58-14 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR for escape to 10 years   imprisonment and 5 years of disqualification with the addition of the unserved portion of the term. Released early in 1953. A student of the Faculty of Lithuanian Language and Literature, expelled shortly before his arrest. Lived in Vilnius, Lithuania. Arrested 12/25/1957   as a member of the underground organization "National Front", for distributing emigrant publications, and participating in a student demonstration.   Sentenced on 14.06.1958 by the Supreme Court of the Lithuanian SSR under Art. 58-10 Part 1 to 8 years in a labor camp. Released on 25.12.1965. Re-arrested on 23.08.1977 as a member of the Lithuanian Helsinki Group. Sentenced on 13.07.1978    The Supreme Court of the Lithuanian SSR under Articles 68, Part 2, 70, 122, Part 2, 241, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Lithuanian SSR    to 3 years of imprisonment, 7 years of forced labor camp and 5 years of exile. In prison in Chistopol prison and Perm camps, in exile - in the Buryat ASSR. Released early from exile by the Decree of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR dated 14.10.1988 .
