Definition: Member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group (from 1977-1978), leader of the Ukrainian Christian Democratic Party.

Arrested on July 5, 1979. Sentenced on December 4, 1979 under Art. 187-1 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR to 3 years of penal colony. 03.12.1981, six months before the end of his sentence, accused of “possession of narcotic substances without the purpose of selling them,” 10.12.1981. The judicial department of the Pridneprovsky District Department of Internal Affairs of Cherkassy opened a criminal case No. 1080 under Art. 229-6 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR. 01/04/1982 sentenced to 3 years in maximum security camps. He was kept in the maximum security camp IV-301/86, Vinnitsa. Released on July 7, 1985, he received a year of administrative supervision. From March 11, 1988 member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, writes the program and charter of the Ukrainian Christian Democratic Front. One of the organizers in the spring of 1988. hunger strikes and rallies in Galicia and Moscow demanding the legalization of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. From 01.11.1988 - Chairman of the UHDF.
In July 1990, he participated in the European Parliament conference in Luxembourg, and was a delegate to the Congress of the World Anti-Communist League in Brussels. 1994 - candidate for people's deputies of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk district No. 157. Since 1995 - honorary Chairman of the Ukrainian Democratic Party with the right of veto. May 27, 1996 left for the USA. 11/17/1997 died in a fire. He was buried in Lvov.
