Sentenced by the USSR Ministry of State Security on 10/01/1949 under Art. 54-10 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR for compulsory treatment. Replaced with a reference to 5 years by the sentence of the OSO under the USSR Ministry of State Security dated 09.09.1950. Released under an amnesty in 1953. After release, he lived in Moscow. Arrested 09/12/1959. Sentenced by the Military Tribunal of the Moscow Military District under Art. 7-1 of the Law on Criminal Liability for State. crimes of December 25, 1958 to compulsory treatment. Released in 1961. In February 1968, Yesenin-Volpin was again imprisoned in a special mental hospital, released in 1970. In May 1972, at the urgent suggestion of the Soviet authorities, he emigrated to the United States. Died 03/16/2016.

Chalidze Valery Nikolaevich

Genus. in 1938 in Moscow. Studied at Moscow and Tbilisi universities. Graduated from Tbilisi University with a degree in physics. PhD. He worked as the head of a department at a research institute in Tbilisi. From 1969 to 1972 was the publisher of the samizdat magazine "Social Problems".In 1970, together with A.D. Sakharov and A.N. Tverdokhlebov, he founded the Committee for the Protection of Human Rights. In 1972, he traveled to the United States by invitation to give lectures. During his stay in the United States, he was deprived of Soviet citizenship and remained in exile. Lived in the USA (Vermont). Together with Edward Klein, he founded the Chronicle Press magazine and publishing house in New York, which published books on human rights topics and, in particular, the samizdat bulletin “Chronicle of Current Events” about human rights activities in the USSR. Chalidze also created a publishing house of his own name, which published, in particular, documents from the archives of Leon Trotsky and other Soviet figures. In 1990, Soviet citizenship was returned. Died 01/03/2018.
