Officer, in 1885 convicted in the case of the Warsaw organization "Proletariat", exiled to Siberia for settlement. After exile, he was exiled as a soldier and rose to the rank of officer. He retired in 1900, headed the Russian library in Helsinki, and helped M. Gorky organize assistance to Soviet scientists.
