Genus. in 1883 in the family of a naval officer who served in the maritime department for 50 years and retired with the rank of captain 1st rank. He began his service in 1908 in the Black Sea naval crew; in 1910 - midshipman, midshipman. He was a member of the foreign department of the Naval General Staff. In 1914, he was assigned to the Hydrograph Corps, with the rank of lieutenant and appointed assistant to the head of hydrography of the Arctic Ocean, as part of which he traveled along the Northern Sea Route from east to west, wintering off the coast of Taimyr. For participation in this expedition, on November 12, 1915, he was awarded the Order of St. Anna, 3rd degree. In 1917 - on the destroyer "Gnevny"; in March 1918, by order of the Naval General Staff, due to staff reductions, he was dismissed from service; in August, he was appointed to the icebreaker “Ivan Susanin” as the head of the Hydrometeorological Unit in the Hydrographic Expedition of the Arctic Ocean. During the capture of Arkhangelsk by the Red Army, he was captured, transferred to Petrozavodsk, then to Petrograd and, finally, to Moscow, where he was placed in a camp near the Kozhukhovo station, then to the Ivanovsky camp. The last news from him from this point was received on June 16, 1920.
