Genus. August 2, 1923 in Poland. The oldest Israeli politician and statesman. Ninth President of the State of Israel since July 2007. He is the oldest active head of state on the planet since January 2, 2013. A long-time member of the Knesset, elected continuously from 1959 to 2007 (from the 4th convocation to the 17th convocation of the Knesset) from the Mapai, RAFI, Labor and Kadima parties. Ninth and twelfth Prime Minister of Israel (1984–86 and 1995–96). Long-term leader and one of the founders of the Avod party (1977-1992, 1995-1997, 2001, 2003-2005). He held ministerial positions in 12 Israeli cabinets. Laureate of the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize (jointly with Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin), knight of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (since 2008). Author of 11 books and a large number of publications and political articles telling the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
