Rupyshev Serafim Petrovich (Pontievich)

Born in 1904 in Vilnius, into a priest's family. Graduated from the Law Faculty of Leningrad University. Lived in Leningrad (Manezhny Lane, 8, Apt. 2). Worked as a legal adviser at the All-Union Institute of Plant Growing (VIR). Arrested on March 6, 1935, according to his wife, for his acquaintance with the former prince D. D. Bagration-Mukhransky (1901–1937). Sentenced by the Leningrad Military District Military Tribunal on October 13–14, 1935 under Article 58-12 of the Criminal Code to 3 years in a labor camp. Sentenced to Magadan and then to Kolyma. Worked as a water carrier in the camp. Released on May 3, 1937 "after serving his sentence with credit for 306 work days." After his release, he did not receive permission to register in Leningrad, and lived in Vyshny Volochok. He was drafted into the army, served in the military registration and enlistment office, was demobilized in 1946, and returned to Leningrad. He worked as a mechanic in a cooperative. He was rehabilitated after 1957.
