Genus. in 1918 in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1924 he moved with his mother to Leningrad; since 1932, the family has lived in the House of the Society of Political Prisoners and Exiled Settlers on Revolution Square in Leningrad. In 1936 (?). entered the Leningrad Institute of Water Transport Engineers. He worked as a turner. In 1937, he left the institute and worked in Murmansk as a sailor in the Northern Fishing Fleet. After the arrest and execution of his mother on June 18, 1938, he and his stepfather were sent into exile as “members of the family of a traitor to the Motherland.” In exile - in Sarapul and the Sarapul region of the Udmurt Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic from 1938 to 1943. He worked as a cultural worker, educator, teacher and head teacher of a school for blind children. In 1943–1945 served in the active army in a separate anti-aircraft artillery division. In 1945–1947 worked as a teacher at an evening school. In 1946–1951 studied at the journalism department of the philological faculty of Leningrad State University. Since 1966, he has been engaged in professional writing. Published the story "What's What", on which the play and film "Men's Conversation" were based, the book "An Incredibly Rich Life", the story "What goes around comes around" in the magazine "Koster" (Leningrad), the books "Two steps from war", the autobiographical story "Millstone", the story "Eternal Punishment" co-authored with his wife E.I. Frolova (published in 2002 in the magazine "Neva", No. 6).
