Batmanishvili Shio Grigorievich
Catholic priest of the Eastern rite, apostolic administrator of the Catholics of Georgia
Genus. in 1885 in the city of Akhaltsikhe, Tiflis province; Georgian. He graduated from the Theological Seminary in Istanbul and the Theological Academy in Rome. Ordained in 1912. He served in the parish in Kutaisi, later - rector of the parish in Akhaltsikhe. Since 1922, abbot of the Constantinople Georgian Catholic Monastery of the Immaculate Conception. In November 1925, with a group of Catholic priests of the Eastern rite, he was accepted into the Vatican by Pope Pius XI. Since 1925, apostolic administrator of Catholics in Georgia. Arrested 16.10. (according to other data, September 21.) 1927 in Tiflis. By resolution of the OGPU PP dated January 16, 1928, he was sentenced under Art. 58-6 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 10 years in labor camp “without applying an amnesty.” Imprisoned in the Solovetsky camp (arrived 02/12/1928; according to other sources, 04/11/1928). In 1930 (according to other sources, in June 1929) he was transferred to the island. Anzer. He was on a business trip to Troitskaya, where on 07/05/1932 he was arrested in a group case of Catholic clergy (charged with “creating an anti-Soviet group, conducting anti-Soviet agitation, secretly performing theological and religious rituals and carrying out illegal connections with the will to transmit abroad espionage information about the situation of Catholics in THE USSR"). Transferred to Belbaltlag at station. Kuzema Kirovskaya railway 05/31/1935; returned to the Solovetsky camp on June 12, 1936. In 1937 he was transferred to prison regime. By resolution of the Special Troika of the UNKVD LO dated 10/14/1937 he was sentenced to VMN. Shot on November 1, 1937 in the Sandormokh tract (Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). Rehabilitated.
