At the age of 17, he solved the tenth Hilbert problem, almost simultaneously with Yuri Matiyasevich, who became famous for his work in 1972. He studied at Kiev University. He completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Mathematics. Limited by a serious illness - myasthenia gravis. In order to provide him with the best medical care, in 1972 his parents applied to emigrate. In response to this, his father was deprived of his job, the KGB began to persecute him, and Chudnovsky's mother was also beaten. The family was supported by foreign mathematicians. Andrei Sakharov also expressed his support. In 1977, the Chudnovsky brothers were able to leave first for France and then for New York, where they worked at Columbia University. In 1981, Grigory Chudnovsky received a MacArthur scholarship, and in 1994 he received the Poya Prize. Now Gregory, along with his brother, are professors at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
