Genus. in 1915 in Lvov. He graduated from the philological faculty of Lviv University, published as a poet and translator. Due to severe myopia, he was not drafted into the army. In June 1941, the German army entered Lviv. He fled to the east and in the flow of refugees ended up in Tashkent, where he was interrupted by odd jobs. In 1943 on a denunciation he was sentenced to 10 years in labor camp. Released in 1955, under the Soviet-Polish agreement he left for Poland. He was engaged in translations, collaborated with the magazines "Frontiers", "Continent", wrote the story "Rabbi from Mount Kalvariya or the riddle of Wolf Messing" (he sat in the same cell with Messing). He worked at the radio station "Freedom", since 1971. lived with his family in Munich.
