Schnittke Alfred Garrievich
Definition: Soviet and Russian composer, music theorist and teacher (author of articles about Russian and Soviet composers), one of the most significant musical figures of the second half of the 20th century. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1987).

Genus. November 24, 1934 in the city of Engels in the Volga German Republic in a mixed Jewish and German family. In 1958 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in the class of composition, then postgraduate studies. From 1961 to 1972 he taught at the P. I. Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory. In the next few years, he earned his living mainly by composing film scores. Like other nonconformist composers, he did not have official awards and for a long time was "not allowed to travel abroad". In 1977 released abroad for the first time. In 1979 elected to the board of the Union of Composers of the USSR. In 1990 he moved to Germany with his family. He began teaching at the Hamburg Conservatory. He died in Hamburg on 08/03/1998. He was buried in Moscow, at the Novodevichy cemetery.
