He came from an old noble family. During the Civil War he served as an artillery officer in the White Army. Since 1920 he lived in Berlin. From 1939 he lived in Paris. He participated in the French Resistance, was arrested by the Gestapo, and spent 10 months in prison. After the war he left for the USA, and since 1953 he lived in Los Angeles. Permanent contributor to the New Journal. Died in 1966 in Los Angeles.
