Kalin Mikhail Ivanovich
Junior lieutenant, platoon commander of the 588th rifle regiment (1940)
Born in 1914 in the village of Zuyevo, Pestovsky District, Leningrad Region; Russian; from poor peasant stock; collective farmer peasant; no registration; incomplete higher education; married; no criminal record. Lived in the village of Zuyevo, collective farm "Pervomaysk". In December 1939, he was drafted into the Red Army by the Pestovsky RVC. Junior lieutenant, platoon commander of the 588th Rifle Regiment. "...as a platoon commander, on 21.12.1939, he received from command a combat mission for the platoon to fight against the White Finns. Instead of carrying out the combat mission, KALIN, several hours before the start, in order to avoid battle, escaped from his combat position to the division's political department, where he declared that he would not fight and refused to return to the front to defend the borders of the USSR from Mannerheim's gangs with arms in hand." Sentenced to death on 16.01.1940, "without confiscation of property due to lack thereof."
