Born in 1901 in St. Petersburg; from the nobility; graduated from the K. May Gymnasium in 1918, then received higher education. In the 1930s, he worked as a senior accountant at the Lenshtamtrest plant in Leningrad. In the spring of 1935, he was exiled with his wife and son to Orenburg for 3 years.
