Born in 1922. Lived in Pulkovo. In 1937, he was left without parents: his father was shot, his mother was sentenced to 5 years in a labor camp. He took part in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940. In 1940, he was a student at Leningrad University. With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he served in the people's militia and was captured by the Germans. After the end of the war, he emigrated to Canada.
