She was born on March 1, 1919 in the Kuibyshev region in the family of a railway employee Mikhail Matsevitsky, a member of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks). She was orphaned early: at the age of seven she lost her mother, at ten - her father. From 1929 to 1935 she lived in the Orenburg region in the family of her aunt on her mother's side. From 1935 she lived independently, combining studies in secondary school with work as a senior pioneer leader.


In 1937, she graduated from high school and entered the Moscow Historical and Archival Institute, which she graduated from in 1941. During the Great Patriotic War, she worked as an inspector of the archival department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic in the city of Stalinabad, then as a senior researcher at the Kuibyshev State Archive. In 1945, she was awarded the medal "For Valiant Labor during the Great Patriotic War."


On December 15, 1947, she was arrested as part of a "group of archive workers" and sentenced to fifteen years of imprisonment. After the death of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, she was amnestied on March 27, 1953, with her conviction subsequently expunged.


After her release, she worked under contracts in museums and archives, including the Central Archive of the Far East in the city of Tomsk as deputy director for scientific work. From June 8, 1954 - head of the funds of the Tomsk Regional Museum of Local History. After a break due to the birth of her daughter, she was again accepted to the museum staff at the end of 1961. From 1962 - head of funds, from 1969 - chief curator of the museum. She was the only specialist with a higher professional education, enjoyed authority in the professional environment, participated in seminars and commissions of the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR, and was sent on business trips to Riga and Irkutsk. In 1969, she went to the city of Kolpashevo to provide methodological assistance to the local branch of the museum.


She was married to Pavel Petrovich Budnik, a labor teacher. The family raised a son, Boris, born in 1949, and a daughter.

The biographical essay is dedicated to Olga Mikhailovna Matsevitskaya, an outstanding specialist in the field of archival and museum affairs, who worked for many years at the Tomsk Regional Museum of Local History. Born into a family of a railroad worker and orphaned early, Matsevitskaya demonstrated independence and determination from her youth. Having received an education at the Moscow Historical and Archival Institute, she began her career as an archivist during the Great Patriotic War, and was awarded for her work. In 1947, she was subjected to political repression and convicted, but after Stalin's death she was amnestied and returned to scientific work.

Since 1954, her professional activity has been connected with the Tomsk Museum, where she rose from the head of funds to the chief curator. Matsevitskaya became one of the key specialists responsible for the preservation of museum collections, and was known for her high level of professionalism, deep knowledge and organizational skills. She participated in seminars, went on inspections for the Ministry of Culture, and consulted the museum branches. Her activities made a significant contribution to the development of museum work in the Tomsk region during the Soviet period.
