Fofanov Alexander Ivanovich

Born July 23, 1879 in St. Petersburg, in the family of a personal nobleman; graduated from the Alexander Cadet Corps and the 1st Military Pavlovsk School. In service since 1898 in the 198th infantry reserve Alexander Nevsky regiment, rose to the rank of captain, then - adjutant of the St. Petersburg commandant's office. By 1917, he and his wife owned several houses. In 1919 he transferred to the Red Army. Later worked as a collector at the Lentrublit plant. Lived in Leningrad, ul. 6-ya Krasnoarmeyskaya, bldg. 3, apt. 9. Arrested on March 20, 1935 by the NKVD Directorate for the Leningrad Region. By the Resolution of the Special Conference under the NKVD of the USSR dated March 23, 1935   as a socially dangerous element, he was deprived of the right to reside in 15 settlements of the country and was exiled with his wife to Saratov. In Saratov, he worked as a cashier-collector in the motorcade of the Balashov state farm. He was arrested on 29.10.1937 by the NKVD of the USSR for the Saratov region. He was sentenced on 29.11.1937 by a judicial troika at the NKVD of the USSR for the Saratov region under Article 58-10 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 10 years in a concentration camp. In prison in   NKVD Lokchimlage, p/o Pemzog, Komi. Died 15.07.1941. Rehabilitated by the 1935 sentence by the Leningrad City Prosecutor's Office on 21.09.1989, by the 1937 sentence by the Saratov Region Prosecutor's Office on 22.08.1989.

On January 22, 2017, a personal memorial sign was installed on house No. 3 on 6th Krasnoarmeyskaya Street in St. Petersburg in memory of A.I. Fofanov as part of the Last Address project.
