Khenkin Evgeniy Alexandrovich
Musician and photographer. In 2017, the State Hermitage Museum hosted the first exhibition of photographs by the Henkin brothers.
Born in 1900 in Rostov-on-Don; Jewish; no name. Graduated from high school in 1917, expelled from the Don Polytechnic Institute in Novocherkassk in 1924. In November 1925, he left for Germany and entered the naval engineering department of the Charlottenburg Higher Technical School. He was expelled in 1930. He gave concerts in many cities in Germany and Europe, played the theremin, trombone, and cello. He took a lot of photographs. In 1936, he returned to the USSR. He worked as a musician at the Lengoestrada. Lived in Leningrad, Zhukovsky Street, Building 31, Apt. 22. He was arrested on November 18, 1937. He was sentenced on December 26, 1937, by the Commission of the NKVD and the Prosecutor of the USSR under Art. 58-6 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to capital punishment. He was executed on January 3, 1938, in Leningrad. He was rehabilitated in 1989.
On October 16, 2020, a personal memorial sign was installed at 31 Zhukovsky Street in St. Petersburg in memory of A.A. Henkin as part of the "Last Address" project.
