Genus. in 1889 in Astrakhan. Real name Bondarev. He graduated from a real school and an infantry school. With the rank of lieutenant, he participated in the First World War, was captured, and was in a prisoner of war camp in Austria. In 1921, as a result of a prisoner exchange, he returned to Russia. He lived in Irkutsk, began writing songs and performing on stage. In 1924 he moved to Leningrad. Since 1926 he worked in Lengosestrad. Arrested on June 23, 1941, on charges of spying for Germany. Sentenced to 10 years in labor camp. In 1951 he was exiled to Siberia, the city of Igarka, where he died.
