Born in 1883 in Monrepos, Vyborg Province, German. Graduated from the University of Tübingen in 1907. Associate Professor of the Military Medical Academy in Petrograd (since 1921), professor (since 1924). In 1925-1933 he headed the Department of General Surgery at the State Historical and Cultural Museum. In 1934 he was elected Head of the Department of Hospital Surgery. In 1931, on the initiative of E.R. Hesse, a blood transfusion station was opened on the basis of the clinic he headed; in 1932 it was transformed into the Blood Transfusion Institute, headed by Hesse. Lived in Leningrad (Fontanka Embankment, 68). Arrested on 14 August 1937. Shot by sentence of the Leningrad Military District. Posthumously rehabilitated in 1959.
