Genus. in 1881 in St. Petersburg. In 1902 he graduated from the infantry cadet school. A participant in the First World War, in 1917 he commanded the Caspian Infantry Regiment, colonel. After the Civil War, he commanded the Trans-Volga and Petrograd military districts. From 1921 he served on particularly important assignments under the Revolutionary Military Council of the Republic. In 1925 he joined the CPSU(b). Since 1926, deputy chief of supply of the Red Army. Since 1930, the Commissioner of the People's Commissariat for Military and Naval Affairs in the People's Commissariat of Trade, then the head of the external orders department of the People's Commissariat of Defense of the USSR.
Lived at the address: Moscow, Sofiyskaya embankment, 34, apt. 103. Arrested on November 28, 1937. The Moscow-Center list dated August 20, 1938 of persons intended to be sentenced under the 1st category (execution), in which Gittis appears, was signed by Stalin and Molotov. Convicted on August 22, 1938. VKVS of the USSR on charges of participation in a counter-revolutionary military organization and espionage received capital punishment. Shot on Kommunarka. Posthumously rehabilitated by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR on June 2, 1956.
