Definition: Soviet dissident, Ukrainian literary critic and publicist, full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician-secretary of the department of literature, language and art history, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Suchasnist”, Minister of Culture of Ukraine (November 1992 - August 1994), Hero of Ukraine.

Genus. in 1931 in the village of Nikolaevka, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region, Ukrainian SSR; higher education - graduated from the philological faculty of the Donetsk Pedagogical Institute in 1953; philologist, Member of the Union of Writers of Ukraine; literary critic. Lived in Kyiv. Arrested 04/18/1972. Sentenced by the Kyiv Regional Court on March 16, 1973 under Art. 62 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR to 5 years of penal colony and 5 years of exile. On November 6, 1973, the Ukrainian SSR PVS was pardoned. Died on February 22, 2022 in Kyiv.
