Galperin Lev Solomonovich

Genus. in 1886 in locality. Black Island of Proskurovsky district. Podolsk province In 1908-1909 In Odessa he studied sculpture on his own. From 1910 in Paris, he attended evening art school, studied at the Grand Chaux Academy under E. Bourdelle, and at the Russian Academy. Since 1912 he worked in his specialty. He actively participated in the life of the Russian Academy, secretary of the board (1913), member of the editorial board of the journal of left-wing artists "Helios". With the outbreak of World War I, he went to Turkey, then to Greece. Lived in Alexandria (Egypt), where from 1914 to 1919. gave private modeling lessons and studied sculpture. He worked in Jaffa and Jerusalem for about a year. Then he moved to Vienna, where he was engaged in the manufacture of wooden bas-reliefs, which were sold in New York. At the end of 1921 he returned to Russia. Lived in Moscow (1921-1928) and Leningrad (1928-1934). He was engaged in painting and graphics. Participated in the exhibition "Artists of the RSFSR for 15 years" (July 1932). In 1932-1934. became close to a group of students and followers of K. S. Malevich, especially with V. M. Ermolaeva. Before his arrest, he was a modeling teacher at the Children's Art School of the Vyborg District, and lived in Leningrad, Bolshoi Okhtinsky Prospekt, 53, apt. 8. Arrested 12/25/1934. The investigation was led by the commissioner of the 4th department of the Secret Political Department, Tarnovsky, and the head of the 4th department of the SPO, Fedorov, participated. The investigation established that G. had drawings depicting Stalin and Lenin naked (the drawings were subsequently destroyed). Sentenced by a Special Meeting of the NKVD of the USSR on March 29, 1935 under Art. 58-10 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 5 years of labor camp. He served his sentence in Karlag. On 10/05/1936 he was transferred to Dmitlag, Moscow Region. Before his second arrest, he worked as a food supply rationer. Arrested on January 25, 1938, charged under Art. 58-10 (“anti-Soviet agitation among prisoners”, “praising the fascist regime in Germany”), pleaded not guilty. Sentenced by a resolution of the troika of the NKVD of the Moscow Region. from 02/02/1938 to VMN. Shot in Moscow (Butovo NKVD training ground) 02/05/1938. Rehabilitated in the first case on September 20, 1989, in the second on October 21, 1993.
