Genus. in 1950 in Chistopol (Tatar ASSR). In 1974, together with V. Poresh, he founded a religious and philosophical seminar for the study of theological and philosophical thought (“Ogorodnikov’s seminars”). He published the samizdat magazine "Community". In the fall of 1978, he was sentenced under Art. 209 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (parasitism) to 1 year of correctional labor camp, sent to the criminal zone of penitentiary colony-7 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. In 1979 he was transferred to Leningrad, on the day of his release he was sentenced to a second term under Art. 70 (anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda) to 7 years in camps and 5 years in exile. He served his term in the Perm camps ("Perm-36"). 04/03/1986, shortly before being sent into exile, sentenced under Art. 188-3 part 2 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 3 years in the camps, followed by exile for violating the regime. At the same time, a case was re-instituted against him under Art. 70 part 2 (religious propaganda and anti-Soviet agitation in prison). By decree of the USSR Supreme Court on pardon in 1987, he was released and returned to Moscow. Upon his return, he published the samizdat magazine Bulletin of the Christian Community (BCH).
