Khmara Stepan Ilyich
Genus. in 1937 in the Ukrainian SSR, Lviv region, Sokal district, Bobyatin village; Ukrainian; higher education, graduated from Lviv Medical Institute in 1964; dentist in a dental clinic. Lived in the Ukrainian SSR, Lviv region, Chervonograd. Arrested on March 31, 1980. Sentenced by the Lviv Regional Court on December 24, 1980 under Article 62 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR, 150 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR to 7 years in a penal colony and 5 years in exile. He served his sentence in the Perm camps. By decree of the PVS of the USSR dated February 12, 1987, he was pardoned. He took an active part in the re-establishment of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group. In the spring of 1990, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. One of the founders and leaders of the Ukrainian Republican Party (URP). Arrested on November 17, 1990, accused of assaulting a police officer; was imprisoned until April 1991. In 1992, he was released from the URP. In 1992-2001 - one of the founders and leader of the Ukrainian Conservative Republican Party (UKRP). After self-dissolution, the UKRP moved to Batkivshchyna, deputy head of the party. In the spring of 2005, he left Batkivshchyna and joined the UNP. Author of the books “Ethnocide of Ukrainians in the USSR” and “General Pogrom”. Awarded Ukrainian state orders and titles. Honorary citizen of Ternopil. Died on February 21, 2024 in Kyiv.
