Genus. in 1930 in the village. Kniselo, Lvov Voivodeship, Poland (now Lviv Oblast, Ukraine). Graduated from Lviv University (1954). From 1954 to 1961 he worked as a teacher. In 1961-1965 - at scientific work in Lvov. One of the organizers and members of the presidium of the Lviv club of creative youth “Snowdrop” (1963). In 1965 he was arrested and in 1966 sentenced to imprisonment for six years. After his release, he worked at various jobs in Lviv. Published the Helsinki Group Bulletin. In December 1981, he was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in a maximum security camp. In 1987 - returns to Lviv, participates in the publication of the “Ukrainian Bulletin”, in the creation of the UGS, URP. In 1990-1994 - People's Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the subcommittee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commission on Issues of State Sovereignty. In 1990-1992 - deputy chairman, co-chairman of the NRU. In 1992-1995 - Chairman of the URP. Since October 1995 - honorary chairman of the URP. Honorary citizen of Lvov. Died 01/13/2013.
