Arrested in 1961, he was accused of “having entered into a criminal relationship with I.A. Kandyba, repeatedly had anti-Soviet nationalist conversations with him, and in October 1960 received the URSS program from him. Knowing from the program about the presence of an anti-Soviet nationalist organization, which aims to tear the Ukrainian SSR away from the Soviet Union and create an “independent” Ukraine, kept it for two months and then destroyed it, thereby, instead of exposing Kandyba and other members of the organization, contributed to their further implementation their hostile anti-Soviet activities, i.e. committing crimes under Article 19 and 56 Part I of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR." On May 20, 1961, the Lvov Regional Court sentenced him to 10 years in a penal colony; on appeal, the term was reduced to 7 years. Released in 1965.
