Finn was born in 1933, the son of emigrants from Canada who came to the USSR in the 1930s to build socialism. He spoke Finnish. In 1957 he graduated from Petrozavodsk State University. University (PSU), Department of Finnish Philology, translator. Worked at PSU. On July 14, 1959, he crossed the Soviet-Finnish border together with Karelian Pekka (Peter) Tupitsyn and turned to the Finnish authorities with a request to provide asylum or the opportunity to travel to another country. The security police concluded that the defectors were political refugees and had a right to asylum in Finland. By the decision of President U. Kekkonen, who did not want to overshadow the upcoming visit of N.S. with this story. Khrushchev, 07/20/1959 fugitives were extradited to the USSR. Accused of illegal border crossing and anti-Soviet agitation, sentenced to 10 years in maximum security camps. Kept in Potma, ZH-385. Released in July 1969. Lived in Estonia, then in Karelia, worked at a paper mill. Died 1982
